The latest data from the Federal Network Agency shows that Germany will have reached a significant milestone in its energy transition in 2023. For the first time, renewable energies accounted for more than half of total electricity generation, a whopping 56%! At the same time, installed renewable energy generation capacity increased by 17 gigawatts, an increase of 12% compared to the previous year. These figures mark significant progress towards the energy transition in Germany.
The role of wind energy was particularly important. Installed capacity for wind energy reached 60.9 gigawatts in 2023, with both onshore and offshore wind energy production reaching historic highs. Solar energy also made significant progress. Last year, 1 million new photovoltaic and solar heating systems were installed in Germany, an increase of 85% compared to the previous year and a new record.
In order to further promote the use of solar energy, the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Protection has published an overview of the "Solar Package". This package aims to accelerate the penetration of residential solar power and will undoubtedly provide a strong boost to the solar industry. In addition, the German government is actively involved in the development of the hydrogen industry. Germany recently became the first EU member state to participate in the European Hydrogen Bank's "Auction as a Service" program, with an additional €350 million allocated for electrolysis projects.
At the same time, the project to build a national hydrogen pipeline network in Germany is progressing. The plan is to use 60% of the existing natural gas pipelines to build a 9,700 kilometer long hydrogen core network in Germany. These efforts by Germany not only contribute to its own energy transition, but also make a positive contribution to global sustainable development.
With the widespread adoption of renewable energy and continued technological advances, we have every reason to believe that a greener and more sustainable future lies ahead. In 2024, the Songsolar brand will continue to focus on the development of clean energy and provide its customers with a better, green life.
